+ The rooms were spacious, staff were friendly and helpful. Location was good.

− The breakfast was not as expected. Items were cold, hygiene was not good (tables were being cleaned with a dirty cloth), cutlery not clean. This was experienced on our first day and we never went back to eat on our 5 days visit.

+ The hotel is comfortable, with the familiar Western standard of service. The room was comfortable, bright and spacious, with a nice bed and a beautiful view from the window (high floor). The room has everything you need, even shaving kits and combs. Breakfast offers a wide selection of dishes, with both European and Chinese cuisine available. The only downside is that it's a bit far from the metro if you're walking. On the plus side, you can use metro stations on several different lines. There are also buses running nearby.

− The elevator requires you to tap your room key card, and it only takes you to your own floor or the ground floor — all other floors are blocked. Because of this, it was inconvenient to meet up with friends who were staying at the same hotel but on different floors.

The staff made this stay one of the best parts of my trip to Beijing.

+ I stayed here during a robotics competition in Beijing, and the staff turned a hotel stay into one of the best parts of my trip. They helped me order food every day and translated for me without me ever having to ask twice. They pointed me to the best places to visit and showed me the cheapest ways to get food and drinks — small things that make a huge difference when you're in a country for the first time. When I came back with my medal, they celebrated with me like they'd been part of the team. They even shared a Gatorade with me, and one of them gave me a Batman figure as a gift — I still have it. Special thanks to Solid at the front desk, I genuinely won't forget him. The view from the room was beautiful too, and everything was clean and comfortable. But it's the people here who make this place worth booking

+ Holiday Inn Deshengmen by IHG – Review from a Muslim Traveller I stayed at Holiday Inn Deshengmen by IHG for one week, and overall, it was a comfortable experience with staff who genuinely tried to accommodate my needs. As a Muslim traveller, there were a few challenges, but also several positives worth mentioning. 🌟 What I Liked Staff willingness to accommodate dietary needs Although the hotel’s dinner options were extremely limited for Muslims and vegetarians, the staff went out of their way to help once I explained my dietary restrictions. They prepared customised meals for me—such as a cheese and tomato pizza—despite these items not being part of the standard half‑board offering. Their effort was truly appreciated. Helpful security staff On our first night, when we realised there were no vegetarian options available, the security guard stepped in and helped us order halal food through Meituan. He spoke more English than the front desk staff and made the process much easier. It’s important to note that using food delivery apps in China requires a Chinese phone number and Alipay/WeChat set up. Clean and well-maintained rooms Housekeeping was excellent. The room was cleaned daily to a very high standard, and fresh bottled water was provided each day. Despite the housekeeping team knowing little to no English, their work was consistently thorough. Convenient location I chose this hotel because it was close to Beijing Normal University East Gate—about a 15–20 minute walk. There’s also a pharmacy and fruit shop within a 2–4 minute walk. I had read in other reviews that the metro station was around a 20–25 minute walk, so I knew what to expect and found the location manageable.

− ⚠️ What Wasn’t as Good Limited food options for Muslims The breakfast spread was decent, with toast, pastries, cereals, beans, sausages, bacon, fruit juice, and a Chinese breakfast selection. However, as a Muslim traveller, I could only eat the bread, cereals, yogurt, beans, and pastries. For dinner, the situation was more difficult. There were only two vegetarian items on the menu—the Caesar salad (which required removing bacon) and the cream and mushroom soup. For anyone with halal or vegetarian requirements, the options are extremely limited. Language barriers The staff were polite and tried their best, but most had very basic English skills. We relied heavily on translation apps throughout the stay, especially when speaking to housekeeping or the dining hall staff. This wasn’t a major issue, but travellers should be prepared for it. ⭐ Overall Impression Despite the challenges with food and language, the staff consistently tried to accommodate my needs, and their willingness made a big difference. The hotel is clean, safe, and located conveniently for anyone visiting Beijing Normal University. If you are a Muslim traveller, just be aware of the limited halal/vegetarian food options and plan accordingly—either through delivery apps or by communicating clearly with the dining staff.

In general, we love our stay very much. Good service and food. We had a good time there. Will definitely stay again next

+ Great service! Friendly staff! We ordered room service and the food was excellent! So convenient when you feel so tired to eat out. House keeper was very considerable she brought my husband a mouse mat when she saw him using his laptop.

− I would love it located near subway stations or have a better public transportation. However for us who were just short stayers, it was okay. The customers service department is very friendly and helpful to book a taxi or Didi based on our needs. I would love the facilities to be upgraded a bit to catch up with the modern technology such as better toilets, curtains, and lighting systems. Yet we enjoy our stay, everything works perfectly fine for us.
