A ‘Grand’ stay in Almaty
+ The Grand Opera Hotel is in an excellent location. There is Starbucks a short walk away with friendly staff, also a nice Asian restaurant ‘Saigon’ around a 5 minute walk away. Our room was very clean with fresh towels every day. Lovely staff especially the young lad in the Breakfast Room every morning of our stay. Start your stay with a Walking Tour to see all the key landmarks.

Disappointed.
+ Clean, good hot water. They kept our luggage when we checked out.
− The staff do not speak English. Always need to call some other person to come and translate. They do not give packed breakfast, when we leave early for tours.they do not even want to compensate with a coffee or a small diner. Was really sad as first timer in almaty.

− The breakfast is meager. As for location it matches the hotel's standard. It's worth updating the furniture and improving the breakfast.

Top-notch in every way
+ I loved this hotel. It's a lovely facility, and I was particularly impressed with the helpfulness of the staff. For instance, when I discovered the local ride- hailing service would not work on my phone, the hotel manager had the staff summon a driver through the app and then wait outside with me until the car arrived. The neighborhood is very nice, with lots of dining opportunities.I will happily stay there again.

+ I liked the location.
− I didn’t like the feeling inside the hotel - as a solo travelling woman I did not feel entirely safe inside my room. The breakfast is honestly not great, I tried it once and had it outside for the remaining days. It didn’t feel clean, and not because the cleaning maids didn’t do their job properly, no. Just in general the place didn’t feel like it was maintained, the furniture felt old.

+ Hotel is OK. Pillows are not the best, water pressure is low, but mostly it is a normal place for 1-2 night stay.
− Plan some time for check-out - they take deposit, and return it after checking room, and it takes some time. In-room safe was not working

+ The staff were friendly and helpful. The cleaners did an amazing job cleaning the room after each night. It was like walking into a brand new room. The hotel is very close to shops and restaurants.
− The breakfast was limited. You get a set platter each morning with little variety.
