Despite a serious safety risk, the host ignored our requests, leaving us feeling unsupported.
− We booked this stay a few days before February 28th, 2026, and arrived in Dubai just as news began to emerge about the outbreak of the recent Gulf conflict. At first, like many travellers, we didn’t fully grasp the severity of the situation. However, within just 30 minutes of arriving at the apartment, we heard a missile being intercepted directly overhead. This was an extremely distressing and alarming experience especially as we were travelling with our 7 month old baby. In that moment, our priority became very clear: we did not feel safe staying there, given the uncertainty and rapidly escalating situation. Although we had barely spent any time in the apartment, we immediately informed the host that, for safety reasons, we had to leave. Following this, I politely reached out to request either a refund or a voucher to return at a later, safer date. Initially, the host acknowledged the situation, but after that, my messages were ignored on three separate occasions. What made this particularly disappointing was that prior to this issue, the host had been very responsive to all communication. The sudden lack of response when we raised a genuine safety concern felt intentional and dismissive. It gave the impression that once payment had been secured, there was little willingness to offer any support or goodwill in an exceptional and distressing circumstance. I understand that policies exist, but in situations involving genuine safety concerns especially with a young family involved; I would expect at least some level of empathy, communication, or flexibility. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling unsupported and let down.
