A hostel stay is a much better alternative
+ Staff, to the best of their abilities, tried to address the issues I raised but it was clearly a failure by the ultimate owners to maintain their investment to the bare minimum standards.
− The whole building requires major renovation, the room lacked a wardrobe and bedside cabinets in addition to an insufficient curtain, bathroom had mould / toilet wasn’t fixed to floor / shower head and hose were broken, exposed live electrical cables everywhere

Exceptional
+ The location of the hotel was decent, but the cleanliness did not meet my expectations. The room could have been cleaner, and I believe more attention should be paid to the bathroom in particular.
