Disappointing experience — absolutely not worth the price
− We came to Baku for Formula 1, so we fully understood that accommodation prices would be extremely high during this period. However, we never expected that we would get such poor conditions for this amount of money. Initially, the host seemed quite nice. He responded quickly to our questions on WhatsApp, offered an airport transfer for 20 AZN, and even showed us a nearby shop, where we could withdraw or exchange money. After a 12-hour journey, we were exhausted, so we agreed that he would come the next day to collect the payment. The check-in itself was extremely quick — he handed us the keys and left. And then we were left alone with this “masterpiece”. The moment we entered the apartment, we were hit by an awful, extremely strong smell of cigarette smoke. For non-smokers, it was simply unbearable. The bathroom was in terrible condition. There were insects/bugs running around, the toilet seat was broken, and the bidet shower was also broken. The bathroom itself was so dirty and unpleasant that we felt disgusted using the shower. We also had serious doubts about the cleanliness of the bed linen and towels. On top of that, there were broken electrical outlets all over the apartment, some of them visibly damaged and in an unsafe, potentially dangerous condition. Our very first purchases in Baku were insecticide and bathroom cleaning products. Luckily, we had a very busy schedule, so we left every morning and only came back to this place to take a shower and sleep. Otherwise, spending any significant amount of time there would have been unbearable. (On the second day, after a rather heated discussion with the host, we managed to get a €125 discount. So, in the end, we paid “only” €500 for 6 days for these luxury apartments.) For €500, we expected at least basic cleanliness, a functioning and safe bathroom, safe electrical outlets, and a smoke-free environment. Unfortunately, we got none of these basic conditions. Extremely disappointing experience.
